What are the best places to eat in Phnom Penh? Seeing as I’ve been here a lot and now live here, I feel it time for me to put this down.

So, what are the Street Food Guy’s top tips for eating in Phnom Penh? I’ve decided to split it into categories. Of course street food shall be one of those categories, but i’ll cover all the other fun stuff too. Best bugs in Phnom Penh? Best Sushi in Phnom Penh?

When it comes to Cambodian cuisine, it is all about the capital city

Best street food in Phnom Penh

This is a tough one as theres a lot of good street food everywhere. For me personally I get my jollies at the many haunts that lay around the royal palace. This is great for many things, BBQ chicken, Cambodian Ouster’s, lort cha. You name it, they got it and they got for cheap.

Best cheap western food in Phnom Penh

OK, so I am not saying the BEST western food in Phnom Penh, I am saying he best place for cheap western food. Basically you could narrow this down to the whole of street 172. If I had to pick a favorite it would be Sundance, which you can read about here . This street might be a bit scummy, but hey a roast dinner for $4.50? How you gonna argue with that? Most of the restaurants also serve poutine, which is very respectable. A lot of the places also do 50 cent beers.

Best places to eat in Phnom Penh – Best Burger

This has been covered in a previous article , but long story short it is Cousins. A french restaurant where the burger juice just seeps out. Always a good affair!

Worst burger restaurant in Phnom Penh?

This is a funny one. Look at the photo. You can go in for a burger, but as things  stand you are unlikely to get one. Although you may still leave happy? I’m fairly sure that it did used to be a burger joint. Papa Burger you do certainly intrigue us!

Best places to eat in Phnom Penh – Seafood

There are a lot of really good seafood restaurant in Phnom Penh. Amazingly it has almost more seafood than Sihanoukville . At a push I would opt for Hengheng Seafoods . Although homemade shrimp is the cheapest and best tasting option, if you know someone who can cook.

Best Slavic food Phnom Penh

When it comes to slavic food there really is only one choice in Phnom Penh, Jungle Cat . Everything from borsch to kebabs. Oh they also sell the best moonshine. Russian, Ukrainian and other Slavic classics and always a good atmosphere.

Best place to eat and watch football in Phnom Penh?

Cheers bar at the #213 Street Sisowath Quay . They do a really good Lok Lak and they play all the football matches. Can’t ask for much more. Opposite is a place called Ohlala , which I also have a soft spot for.

Best English Tea in Phnom Penh?

Best places to eat in Phnom Penh? A tea house you say?? MAKE IT AT HOME! You need hot water, a teabag and milk. That is it. It certainly is not at BriTea English Teahouse. I actually liked the place, interesting juices and Christmas decorations. It’s just not English Tea!!!

Best place to try bugs in Phnom Penh

In Siem Reap it is all about 60 meter street , but in Phnom Penh its by then royal palace. Name the bug and they sell it here. I particularly enjoyed the tarantula, snake I was less keen on.

Theres a place on the corner of street 173 going down to the riverside. It has no name! But we have a photo! They cook every part of the chicken.

Best place for Craft beer in Phnom Penh?

Not exactly est places to eat in Phnom Penh, more drinks! Pretty much THE place for craft beer is Embargo Bar, which you can read more about here . They also sell the moonshine from Jungle Cat.

And those are my best places to eat in Phnom Penh (so far). Although I will probably not be leaving any time soon, so I do intend to add to the list. And as always if you have suggestions, thrown them over.
