Pho

Funny because it sounds a bit like poo! OK, so enough of the childish stuff, this is the legendary soupy noodle dish served all over Vietnam. Amazingly it is a relatively new dish originating in Northern Vietnam in the early 20th century. Since then it has traveled from Vietnam to become the most iconic vietnamese dish.

Banh Mi of Vietnam is the most famous, but there is a variation of the dish in Cambodia. OK, so it it is a baguette, but when you add stuff like papaya salad and foes gras it become Banh Mi. The second most iconic dish in Vietnam, and a great snack at any time.

Another dish with varieties throughout Asia. Originally from China it is a fertilized duck egg! Heard the chicken and the egg thing? This is halfway between the two. Often described as one of the grossest snacks around it is pretty good and is only made better with beer, salt and vinegar, in that order.

Mala tang

Mala is a Sichuan style hot sauce and tang means soup. This is like the aforementioned Kao Rou, but instead of doing BBQ the meat is boiled and then served to you in a pay broth. Found throughout China, but I have a particular fancy for Shenzhen and Dandong styles.

You have to give kudos to the country that invented sushi and sahimi, but these tend to be more on the epxsnive side than your average street food. The miso broth is what makes this very Japanese and a standout dish. Just don’t ague about if it originate in China, or not.

Fried noodles are a quintessential Chinese dish for sure, but they are available everywhere. The best thing about them is perhaps that every country has its own take on them.
