Where is the best burger in Kampot? Long story short it’s at Laundry Cafe Burger Bar.
Best burger in Kampot
Generally speaking, I’ve been a very good street food boy, but every now and again you gotta follow the masses, and the masses required burgers. According to our local contacts, Laundry Cafe Burger Bar was the best in Kampot. We needed to test this theory.
The menu was fairly mind-blowing, with an array of burgers from 5-7 dollars, with the majority opting for the spicy Poncho Villa Burger.
Having local contacts meant I was to be treated to the “secret” menu, which consisted of Jack Daniels Burger with pulled pork. More on that later…
American comfort food in Kampot
Next door was the Hurricane Brewski, which served Canadian and American “comfort food”. We ordered poutine, similar to our chips and gravy , if nothing else to keep our little Canadian happy.
The owner of Laundry Cafe is a bit of a character, and it wasn’t long before I was introduced to Angkor Beer with jäger. Interesting, but as a jäger traditionalist, not my bag baby.
And to the burgers! Phenomenal, mine was huge, with the juice of the pulled pork really making the difference on this burger. The spicy burger looked great too, although we were all so involved in our food no one shared…
The poutine went as a great accompaniment, especially for the homesick Canadian we had with us. Not just the best burgers in Kampot, but probably in the running for best Cambodian burger too.
Big Boy Burger in Siem Reap
Laundry Cafe have since opened up in Siem Reap. They could not use “Laundry” as there is already a girly bar with that name.

The second best burger in Kampot
I would not be doing my due diligence on the best burger in Kampot were I not to check out the other burgers on offer in Kampot, and so it was that I headed to Burger Shack. No not that Burger Shack.
In fact there are two branhes of this restaurant, with the other one in Phnom Penh servicing the wonderful Embargo Bar. In some respects I came here almost with an agenda, I knew the owner, so I wanted this to be the best burger in Kampot. Alas it was not to be.
You can read about Embargo Bar here.
The menu at Burger Shack is much less inventive and eclectic as Laundry. Not always a bad thing, sometimes simplicity rules. The most attractive burger I could see was the double cheeseburger $4 without a beer, or $5 with. Not really any change in the value, but hey. They did not have draft beer, only cans, not a great start.
How was the burger at Burger Shack Kampot?
Very decent and I have very little bad to say about it. They were obviously inspired by McDonalds. In Fact it was the closest I have had to a McDonalds this decade. There is no McDonalds in Cambodia.

But for me and something I have always said. If you like McDonalds you like McDonalds, if you like burgers, you like Burger King. With this in mind I choose Laundry as the best burger in Kampot, but a very honourable mention for Burger Shack Kampot. And in such a small town and the fact they are on the same street, you really can try both if you happen to be here for a few days.
